 Cleaning Order/Checklist

March 6, 2020

Unless otherwise noted, always start from top to bottom. Start at one point in the room, and work your way around the room clockwise. Do not skip around.

Begin upstairs first. Always start with wet work (bathrooms) first, then move on to dry work. Always wait until everything else is done to vacuum and mop. NEVER leave a house without doing a final inspection.

Bathrooms:

Put out all bath rugs and shake out/vacuum. Empty trash and replace liners if needed.

Swiffer/ cobweb entire ceiling/walls.

Dust (wipe if needed) light fixtures, ledges, door frames (including tops and faces), door jam and door. Always wipe door knob, fingerprints on/around door, and light switches.

Swiffer baseboards.

Clean mirror with a damp rag, then quickly wipe with a dry rag. Look from different angles to ensure there are no streaks.

Spray and wipe all horizontal and vertical surfaces. Use barkeepers and a non scratch scrubby in the sink, or sand paper if needed. Clean fixtures with a rag, and make sure they are completely dry and streak free. Make sure to clean sides, underneath, and bottom if it’s a stand alone sink. Make sure to pick up everything and wipe each item and underneath each item (toothbrush holder, hand soap holder, etc). Wipe the toilet paper holder and fold the toilet paper.

Sprinkle bar keepers in toilet and scrub the entire inside of the bowl, including under the rim (where you can’t see) with sandpaper. Never put anything inside of the toilet bowl except sand paper and bar keepers. Wipe the entire outside of the bowl, the handle, lid, seat, underneath the bowl, and behind. With a fresh rag, wipe the baseboards near the toilet, as well as the floor surrounding the toilet. Scrub (with toothbrush) the bottom grout of the toilet that touches the floor if urine stained. Wipe all baseboards in the bathroom.

Clean the shower/tub area with a rag. If the fixtures don’t come clean with a rag, then use some barkeepers to clean, wipe clean with a water rag, then polish streak free with a dry rag. Don’t forget the shower head or the outside edges!! Always start showers/tubs with just a rag and Mrs. Meyers. IF it remains dirty, try a blue scrubby and dawn. Always save bar keepers for last since it is harder to clean out and takes more time. Sandpaper can be used as a last resort, if absolutely necessary, but never on marble, granite or glass surfaces!!

Tri fold all towels. If there is a wet washrag, lay it on the edge of the tub to dry. Vacuum the floor, open and close the door to ensure you don’t miss a spot. Then hand wipe the floor clean starting farthest from the door and hand wiping your way out, replacing rugs in their original spot.

Once bathrooms are cleaned, do a final inspection, then move on to kitchen.

Kitchen:

Swiffer and cobweb all ceilings, walls, cupboards, trim.

Dust and wipe all horizontal and vertical surfaces, including the front of all top and lower cabinets, on top and on the sides of fridge and microwave.

Wipe the inside and outside of microwave, including removing any trays.

Clean all counters, removing and cleaning all appliances and knick knacks (including underneath). Make sure to spot clean the backsplash if needed.

Wipe clean the front of the fridge, the top and front of stove and dishwasher, and tri fold any dish towels. If you need to stainless steel anything be sure to ALWAYS use a new rag so you don’t scratch the surface.

If dirty dishes are left in the sink, always put them in the dishwasher and leave a note, or hand wash them all. Never leave dirty dishes!! When cleaning the sink, use soft scrub. Use barkeepers as a last resort. NEVER use barkeeps in black porous sinks. Always remove any strainers, stoppers, dish sponges before cleaning. Be sure to clean the bottom of any strainers or stoppers as well before placing them back in the sink. Polish the faucet and fixtures.

Wipe the window above the sink with a water rag and dry with a clean rag until streak free. Don’t forget the window sill and ledge.

Remove trash/ recycling and take to proper bin outside. Replace bag and clean top and sides of trash can.

Always wipe the baseboards/mop boards (under the cabinets) by hand, moving any debris into the middle of the kitchen so it is easier to vacuum.
